Penticton Net Metering Program

The City of Penticton recently relaunched their Net Metering Program due to expressed interest from the community. Their Net Metering Program supports the policy direction outlined by the provincial government in the 2007 BC Energy Plan. The objectives of the program are to provide customers with the means to take responsibility for their own power production and to lower their environmental impact.

How does it work?

Penticton residents can install small clean or renewable energy generators such as wind, hydro, solar or geothermal on their premises to produce energy. Customers who are generating their own electricity are now able to sell their power back to the grid again at the retail rate, with credit balances carried over to the following month.

Is there a limit on system size?

Customers can produce up to 50 kW (<750V) through generating their own clean energy. However, with approval from your Electric Utility, you may be able to own a larger system due to larger load demands. Please contact your Electric Utility prior to all net metering installations, including any that may be larger than 50 kW.
