Incentives for Alberta Residential and Commercial Solar Programs

Energy Efficiency Alberta has updated the Residential and Commercial Solar Program (RCSP) to boost participation and help ensure solar incentives are funded at intended levels for the size of projects in the Alberta market.

*Since this blog was posted incentives have changed dramatically in Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia. Please visit our incentives page for the most up to date information.

Incentive Changes

  • Higher price per watt for residential PV: Incentives for residential solar systems will now be $0.90 per watt, increased from $0.75 per watt. The maximum payable incentive amount has remained at $10k (to a maximum of 35% of project costs, increased from 30%)
  • More commercial projects to be eligible: Businesses will continue to receive $0.75 per watt; however, the maximum payable incentive amount has increased to $1 million, up from $500k (to a maximum of 35% of project costs, increased from 25%)
  • Higher price per watt for non-profits and charitable organizations: $1.00 per watt, up from $0.75 per watt; to a maximum of 35% of total project cost or $1 million.

All applications currently submitted to the Residential and Commercial Solar Program (submitted Part 1) will receive the new, higher incentives. To recognize the important “early adopter” role of all residential participants who enrolled since the start of the program (April 2017), EEA will be providing a $400 bonus rebate to these homeowners which can be used towards any eligible energy-efficiency upgrade in the recently launched Home Energy Plan program. A detailed email outlining how to take advantage of this offer will be sent to all past residential solar participants.

If you are interested to install a solar PV system for your home or business, please contact us for a free estimate as soon as possible as we expect demand to be extremely high. Take advantage of these incentives and begin harvesting Alberta’s sunshine as soon as possible!
