Meet the Ladies of SkyFire Energy

At SkyFire the ladies are a minority on the team for sure but we love working here nonetheless. Our passion for renewable energy, sustainability, and honest hard work have brought us to SkyFire to live our passion each day.

Nicole Boisvert – Marketing and Culture Manager

How long you have worked for SkyFire?

I am the newest lady to the SkyFire team having worked here since June 2018.

Why are you are interested in working in the renewable energy industry?

I really enjoy working at SkyFire because it is important for me to work for an organization that is making a positive impact on the world. If you breathe air then the environment should be a concern for you and I like being a part of the solution.

What does your ideal workday look like?

My ideal workday has variety, people, laughter, productivity, and dogs in it.  There is no shortage of all of this here at SkyFire.

What is your favorite pastime?

I am a real foodie having come from the health food and organics industry.  I love to cook, garden, develop new recipes, and eat great food. Besides food my favorite activity is to be outdoors whether that is walking the dog, hiking in the foothills, or hanging out on the beach in a hot destination.

Tell us about your dog.

I have a 9-year-old bulldog named Tucker. He is so sweet with the gushiest neck of fur. He is a real sleeper but is up to play at a moment’s notice.  He loves water and is a great swimmer. It’s his job to chase the magpies out of the yard.

What is the benefit of being a woman working for SkyFire?

At SkyFire there are currently 50 men and 5 women. The benefit is there is always someone around to carry the heavy marketing items for events. The men who work here are a great group of guys and I enjoy them a lot.

Oksana Treacy – Commercial Project Manager

How long you have worked for SkyFire?

I have worked with SkyFire since April 2018.

Why are you are interested in working in the renewable energy industry?

I want to do my part in making the world more sustainable. I find working in the renewable energy industry truly inspirational.

What does your ideal workday look like?

As a project manager for commercial installations, I am currently involved with 20+ projects. On an average day, I do a lot of multi-tasking, working on several projects at the same time. Effective communication with clients and our installation crews is crucial for success. Occasionally, I go on-site visits as well.

What is your favorite pastime?

I enjoy indoor and beach volleyball and also like watching my kids play sports. Travel is another passion of mine, and I look forward to traveling more in the future.

Tell us about your dog.

I do not have a dog myself, but really enjoy interacting with all of my coworkers’ dogs when they come to the office!

What is the benefit of being a woman working for SkyFire?

I think being a woman and a mother of three children has benefited me as a project manager. I can juggle multiple tasks, stay calm under pressure, and problem-solve when things do not go as planned.

Vilasini P Pillay – Brand and Community Engagement Manager

I joined SkyFire back in May 2013 as part of the ACCA internship program with Alberta Renewable Energy Co-operative (SPARK) and have grown with them over the years into my current role, Brand & Community Engagement Manager. Over the last 7 years (minus one amazing year of maternity leave), I’ve had the pleasure of managing SkyFire’s branding, advertising, sponsorships, website, graphic design, events, and more.

In addition to my role here at SkyFire, I’m also spearheading exciting community initiatives with a few renewable energy co-ops in Alberta (Alberta Solar Co-op & SPARK). You could say that renewable energy and sustainability runs in my blood since I have an engineer dad who owns a biomass company in Asia and I grew up in an energy-efficient home in Malaysia which is equipped with solar water heating, a rainwater collection system, and an in-house wastewater treatment plant! As a career woman and a mother, I’m honored to be working with an organization that is making the world a better place for our future generations and positively impacting both the environment and everyone around them, including us team members.

Krista Wetthuhn – VP of Finance

How long you have worked for SkyFire?

5.5 years in the current role of VP Finance. I’m responsible for preparing financial reports, contributing to the strategic direction and making sure everyone gets paid 🙂

Why are you are interested in working in the renewable energy industry?

I love being on a team with amazing people, who work together to benefit communities and the environment. There’s so much potential in this line of work and I’m constantly inspired by everyone’s passion.

What does your ideal workday look like?

My ideal workday includes communicating with co-workers, customers, and suppliers. My favorite part of my role is taking inputs from these sources and reporting them in a useful way for financial decision-making.

What is your favorite pastime?

I greatly enjoy spending time outdoors with my husband and our dog, Gator. I also love jogging and yoga.

Tell us about your dog.

I have a rescue dog named Gator. He’s a German Shepherd cross and is approximately 8 years old. He loves treats and adventures in Fish Creek Park.

What is the benefit of being a woman working for SkyFire?

There’s so much opportunity with SkyFire and everyone is treated as equals here.

Katie Prall – Administrative Assistant

I’ve been an administrative assistant with SkyFire Energy for 3 years.

What started my endeavor in the renewable energy industry is my passion for the environment, which I express through my devoted work with SkyFire as well as volunteer efforts with a non-profit organization called Emerging Leaders of Solar Energy.

My ideal workday at SkyFire involves correspondence with other colleagues and customers, assisting in finance and logistics, and ensuring our office runs efficiently.

In my free time, I enjoy yoga, traveling, and hanging out with my cat Charlie.

A benefit of being one of the women working at SkyFire Energy would be our overall dedication and helpful nature that creates a healthy workplace relationship and a well-rounded workforce.
